Heritage Listed Lamb House Faces Uncertain Future - "The Land Alone Is Worth $6.1M"
As already mentioned by ABC news, and posted on Brisbane >> here << (which is a good place to discuss the situation thus far) Lamb House is once again in a critical position, having fallen further into disrepair and further behind on rates. The ABC is highlighting that the place may be seized, which then begins a new (and maybe very short) chapter for the house - which is what this thread is about.
Perhaps, with money sourced from thin air, it could be saved from falling into further disrepair and eventual collapse at the hands of the elderly owner who is seemingly overburdened or disinterested in it's upkeep, by some entity purchasing it and turning it into a cultural asset to Brisbane OR
This significant Brisbane home could be prevented from becoming a local architectural and period icon by being quietly under-the-tabled to the hand-wringing developer mates of someone.
If you think something more along the lines of the first scenario is more just, thenthere is at least one group attempting to ' Help Save Lamb House ' and that link is >> here <<, https://www.architecture.com.au/archives/news_media_articles/help-save-lamb-house Though like those conspiratorially minded, it may pay to speak loudly and directly across multiple platforms. I do not see a petition on the BCC website at this time, nor anybody showing concern, and that's a bit depressing to say the least. If only there was as much financial backing to save this and the maritime museum and our parks as there is for the new Casino.. Can you do something?
Hey guys, here are some recent job openings in ca. Feel free to comment here or send me a private message if you have any questions, I'm at the community's disposal! If you encounter any problems with any of these job openings please let me know that I will modify the table accordingly. Thanks!
Today 4/1/2020 this Detroiter, inspired by “The Chats” (and also inspired by Amyl and the Sniffers based out of Melbourne) planned a 13 day trip to Brisbane. Having never visited Australia before, my plans were to spend half the time in Brisbane, to visit the Australia zoo, animal refuges, the museums, live music, the club “the zoo” in particular to see the “Iron Maidens” on 4/9 and we also planned to squeeze in the footy game the same day 4/9 at The Gabba, the Brisbane Lions v Collingwood. Then, we planned to travel to Broad Beach on the Gold Coast, to check out the beaches, the sky walk, maybe the amusement parks and SeaWorld, for sure the Gold Coast Casino and just generally enjoy the culture and people of Brisbane and all your beautiful country has to offer. What did I miss? I hope your countries Coronavirus response is successful and swift! I do wish ScoMo would highlight the need to shelter in place over education in public schools. Be safe! See you 4/2021.

As if the Queens Wharf project wasn't enough of a ripoff in terms of genuine public amenity, they have now reduced the size of the parklands
This casino project is just so bad compared to Barangaroo (massive public greenspace on the most expensive land in Australia). Bugger all greenspace considering the size of the sight. Now they reduced that further. Its basically concrete and glass all over. They even ignored the State Govt Guidelines to attenuate the REX. All in a secret deal involving public land. Brisbane deserves better than this.
Pubs/Bars or Taverns near train stations Dec 2018 Update
Thanks all for you recent suggestions. I've added most, although I'm trying to keep them within a 2km walk from the stations. Keep your input coming, and I'll update later in 2019. Happy Christmas drinking.

Hello everyone! Figured we would keep a running list of the upcoming shows with times and the opening act since that seems to be a common question! The times should all be the local time. Please let me know any corrections. I will keep this updated with new dates and announcements! Also figured I'd add a basic "schedule for the show" day since that seems to be a common question as well. Day of show rundown
Doors are at whatever time
8 PM - opening band should start
8:30/45 - opening act ends, set change begins
9 PM - The Killers come on
11 PM - The killers finish
Please check your venue for actual times. Times are subject to change based on the band and venue, so these are approximations based on experiences of users from recent shows. I just edited it based on my experience as well as some more feedback from other shows.
Comment on my planned GC trip in November - Transport/Things 2 Do/Food – Questions!
Hi all, I’ll be coming to Gold Coast in mid-November for 4 full days/nights, and will be based in Surfers Paradise. I’m just wanting a few questions answered/get your thoughts on my plan. Questions:
Landing in Brisbane – What is the best/efficient/ way to get to surfer’s paradise?
Which other theme park besides Movie/Dream world is best?
Time required at each theme parks?
Travelling - To and from theme parks, and other places eg malls - Uber?
Any must do activities etc
Top food spots?
Any deals/vouchers for the activities I want to do (below)?
Here is a list of things I’d like to do:
Sky point observation deck
River Cruise
Dream World
Movie World
Pacific Fair mall
7d Cinema
Ripleys blieve it or not
Casino – The star gold coast
Clubbing
Food; I’ve briefly browsed on Instagram/Tripadvisor on some places to go for food:
Breakfast - cafes such as Bambam bakehouse, Blendlove, Caradapon pod, Pancakes on the rocks, Elk espresso and Comuna cantina.
Lunch -I’d probably need to get something at the theme parks/pacific fair mall – any good options?
Dinner – I’d like to do a buffet, is Citrique the best one? Shiraz, Brooklyn depot, and house of brews.
Thanks all, your advice/input would be much appreciated! :)
Pubs, Bars or Taverns near Train Stations in Perth
So, the contributions have stopped coming in now. Have had a lot of help, so thank you all very much. Am gonna list all I have below. If you have any more suggestions/comments, let me know, and I'll add them here. Thanks all again - I hope people of Perth find this useful if they are planning any pub related activities around trains... Overseas travelers reading this: Be advised that Australia often uses the work "Hotel" to describe a pub. You will likely find an old (For Perth) Hotel, which has been modernized, and no longer offers accommodation, just booze. Yeah - I don't understand it either... So, without further ado:

New encore stage setup: Shelter (acoustic) is now played by them on the center of the stage instead of on their stand
Slight changes on their live setup: Porter's keyboard to his left (which was never used during leg 1) was removed and now Madeon has cymbals on his left and on his right instead of just on his right
Updated light show for some songs
ADDED ON SF SHOW ON 11/23: Lasersssss
ADDED ON SF SHOW ON 11/23: Added pyrotechnic stuff to some songs
Hello Everyone, I frequently see questions about what to do around the coast, in here I will attempt to keep a running list of ideas. Some things are in multiple areas e.g. Fresh food markets/live music so I haven't listed every individual item, if you see something that that interests you try googling to see if there's one in your area! Starting from North GC then moving south you have: Pimpama/Ormeau(ish):
Game Over (Indoor rockclimbing, go karting, and lasertag).
Organise some mates and go on brewery tour with Hop On Brewery Tours, they pick up/drop off at many places along the coast so check the website to see where the bus travels.
Check out NightQuarter night markets for food and live events.
Mt. Tamborine:
Visit the Tamborine Mountain Distillery, if you're lucky there will be a lady there that does a $5 tasting session, last time I was there we did about 8-10 (half-shots) of samples each. Na Zdorovie!
Visit one of the many winery's/brewery's and eat some cheese platters with a view.
Nerang(ish):
Have dinner at The German Club (I highly reccomend getting a pork knuckle on a friday/saturday night and washing it down with a tall glass of unfiltered honey wheat beer).
See a movie at Nerang Cineplex -admission tickets very well priced!
Go indoor go karting at Slideways Go Karting. The track was recently refurbished and now has a three storey layout and neon lights- track video.
Side note: Varsity Station is the furthest south the train goes. If your planning on training it to Surfers Paradise you'll want to get off at Nerang Station and then get a bus. Use Journey Planner to plot your public transport methods and make sure to buy a go card in advance at a 7-Eleven.
Funny enough Little Viet Rolls in the Robina Town Centre food court does a cracking good Bánh mì (Vietnamese Pork Roll- SUHHH GOOD).
Walk up to the top of Burleigh Headland (and definitely don't climb onto the overhanging rock for a sweet view or selfie -if you're into that sorta thing).
Justin park at Burleigh occasionally has drum circles on Sunday nights, go kick a hacky sack around and make friends :)
Walk to the end of the Jetty at The Spit and eat a sanga, watch the waves and many men of Asian descent catching fish.
Take a break from all these exciting things listed here and relax in a sensory deprevation tank at float.life.
Get some friends together and take on a real life point-and-click adventure! Escape Hunt has many scenarios and difficulty puzzles to choose from (I'd recommend starting at easy, they are a bit difficult).
Perform your famous rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody at Tune-up bar and Karaoke (it's above the Off ya tree on Cav Ave) or hire a private karaoke booth at G-Clef.
A must-stop meet up place for coffee/art is Dust Temple.
Hire a Stand Up Paddleboard (colloquially known as a "Sup") or Kayak for 15 bucks/hour at Currumbin Boatshed or Gold Coast Sup and cruise up and down Currumbin Creek.
Take some surfing lessons/hire a surfboard. Many operators so google this one, often they are already at beach carparks and you can just walk up.
Fishing.
See how ridiculouly far out you can walk out at Rainbow Bay.
Special thanks to Veritasfides, Katastrophe87, Nebo64, Sipc, shadesofgray029, and verifiedpain for their suggestions! Updated 05-10-2019 To do: (Ignore this, or don't. Meh) -Reboundland -Fun360 -Bounce inc moved, airfactory gone -elvis museum -alpaca farm -herb cottage -gold coast clay target club -Order it so it's actually geographically correct north to south. Duh.
